5 ways to clean Brass Jewellery at home

As much as Brass Jewellery looks attractive, it easily gets tarnished as well. If it sticks then your jewellery is only brass plated. Also, check out whether your jewellery is lacquered or non-lacquered, which can be tested by looking at the finish of your Jewellery. If its coating has a protective finish then the jewellery is lacquered, otherwise, it is non-lacquered. If you have lacquered jewellery piece then simply clean it with a damp cloth and you’re good to go.

Soap and warm water:

Using soap and water is one of the easiest methods for naturally cleaning brass based artificial jewellery at your home. Here’s how to do it: Take warm water and a small amount of liquid dish soap, mix well and use your fingers/palm or a soft toothbrush (not a harsh one) to gently scrub the surface of your Jewellery item. After the scrubbing, rinse the item thoroughly. Brass is prone to retain water, therefore, be sure to dry the metal well afterward and dry it thoroughly.



Ketchup:

Take a small amount of ketchup and gently scrub the brass based artificial jewellery piece with your fingers or a soft toothbrush. Once your scrub it, leave it for a minute and then rinse it well. You can repeat this method twice or thrice. Just make sure to dry it well after the cleaning. So, next time when you visit KFC or dominoes, don’t mind picking up extra ketchup packets.

Lemon:

Lemon can be used in two ways to clean the Brass based artificial jewellery.

Lemon Juice:

Squeeze half a lemon into a cup of water. Then add a teaspoon of salt until dissolved and stir the mixture. Place your Jewellery in the mixture and remove it when it gets cleaned properly. Rinse the item and dry completely.

Salted Lemon:

Cut a lemon in half and sprinkle some salt on the open side of a lemon half (on the pulp) and rub it over the brass Jewellery item. Use your fingers or a soft toothbrush to clean the item. After the scrubbing wash and dry the brass Jewellery item thoroughly.

Vinegar, Salt, and Flour:

For this method, you need 1 teaspoon of salt, ½ cup of vinegar. Combine the salt and vinegar and mix well. Add flour until the mixture becomes a paste. Scrub the brass item with your hands or a soft toothbrush and leave it for around 8-10 minutes. Rinse the brass with warm water and dry thoroughly. Don’t forget to dry it thoroughly.
